Queen Of The Fake Smile

(Written by Eileen Rose)

There may be light in the way that we foul up
And maybe luck in the way that we lose
Who you gonna trust now these days?
Who all’s gonna shine like a soft colored jewel...............maybe no one

And when the ex-best said, “Babe, I think there is no doubt
It’d take a whole team of top shrinks to sort you out
I thought he was so mean 'til I got how
It was all part of his theme just to put down, what he couldn’t beat or keep at his own house

He said I plan to be King, I could make you my Queen
We could lead here and do it in style
He said girl take my hand, and I said, sure, we can rule the land of the Fake Smile

And you’re flying high in the rush of the moment
Flying high, walking out on the wing
Takes a lot of luck, staying up there
Just one little dip and your trip’s at an end
There could be choirs of angels singing.....or maybe no on
Who you gonna find now, Baby?
Who all's gonna shine a like a soft colored jewel....  there’s got to be someone

Gonna shake off this crown, take a walk off the grounds
Maybe kick off these shoes for a while
Yeah, it’s good to be King but it’s a whole ‘nother thing when your Queen’s runnin’ wild
They’ll kiss your ring and I’ll refuse but I’ll be singing the blues for the new Queen of the Fake Smile

Now our wheels could be turning, getting nowhere fast
The whole world burning up in one solar flare blast
But at last I’m with you, my soft colored jewel, in the dust and the ash
Yeah, that's no small thing and if you see the king, tell him the old Queen of The Fake Smile laughs

Oh she is laughing....

She's Yours

(Written by Eileen Rose)

Her sail’s in tatters, it blows in the mist
Her starboard’s shattered, like bones in the drift
Her port’s all battered she lists on the shore
That all don’t matter, she’s yours

The air grew heavy, scented burnt oak and ash
The sky so angry, all bruised up and black
The hard wind took her, but the sea brought her back
It had no right to keep her, she’s yours
She’s yours, she’s yours

Sometimes love on the wing
Ain’t no lily white veil
Comes in black as a crow with a thorn in her tail
Meet it armed to the teeth and your destined to fail
You got to throw those troubles overboard
And she’s yours

The clouds all scatter, give their way to the dawn
The gulls they gather just to sing her back home
The dark that had her fading pale to the morn’
And all that  matters is yours

She’s yours, she’s yours

Prove Me Wrong

(Lyrics by Eileen Rose, Music by Eileen Rose & Boo Hewerdine)

Guess I’m not what you wanted
Same old dance, same old song
Guess I know I was a long shot from the start
Prove me wrong

Caught myself saying the wrong thing
Ain’t it just like me to bring you down?
Suppose I know, in the morning you’ll be gone
So prove me wrong

I’m one of the hard luck cases
Scared of wide open spaces
And love?
I’ve never chased down
Maybe I think you think I’ve stuck around too long
So prove me wrong

I’m one of the hard luck cases
Scared of wide open spaces
And love?
I’ve never chased down

Maybe I think you think I’ve stuck around too long
So prove me wrong
Prove me wrong

Each Passing Hour

(Written by Eileen Rose)

Well he started moving a heartbeat from the last word she said
Because love, that cold hearted killer, would have left him for dead
You can outrun the blues if you choose and move quickly
The wide streets ahead you well know
In the future, ain’t all paved with gold
But the past, that four letter word’s, just a dark empty road

Well she gave her hand to the first man she thought she could love
And he tried hard to be who he thought she might think that he was
But the truth, like the sun’s, gonna rise up one morning
To burn up the lies you have told
Then a sorrow that won’t let you go
Sets you running, hat in your hand, for the wide open road

Now she sits on the porch all wrapped up in a blanket
Her bottle just barely concealed
Hiding her face in an old winter scarf he’d worn for years
She’s been crying for the first man she loved and she hated
And the young heart he broke long ago
Wishing Ma’d grabbed her hand and her coat
And they’d fled to a good life unknown on this dark ugly road

She can feel in her bones that with each passing hour,
The faster and further he goes
Toward a future that she’ll never know
And she’ll drift out her days, in the past, on the same dusty road

Drift out her days in the past on the that same dusty road

Just Ain't So

(Written by Eileen Rose)

You roll and twist in a bed of your making and you wish you could be sleepin‘
Your big dreams done gone, your head is a wreck, your own counsel ain’t worth keepin’
Ya called too many wrong and the last you got left
Is the first you should be leaving

She ain’t the best you can do, just the best that you got
She’s a mean little fuck-up you're ready to drop
Got the back wheels spinning and they just won’t stop
Got your finger on the trigger but the gun won’t pop
None of your friends are gonna tell ya ‘cause your friends don’t know
You say it’s me that’s out to get, but it just ain’t so.

Well the truth is you don’t and you won’t, never did, still you went and said I do
Two big bad words when you’re clawin’ ‘em back, don’t they claw right back at you?
There’s a way you could go but the cracks gonna show and the fix ain’t coming through

It ain’t the best you can do, just the best that you got
And you’re clean outta luck and you’re ready to drop
Got your back wheels spinning and they just won’t stop
You got your finger on the trigger but your gun won’t pop
None of your friends are gonna tell ‘cause your friends don’t know
You think it’s me that’s out to get, but it just ain’t so

It ain’t the best you can do, just the best that you got
And you’re clean outta luck and you’re ready to drop
Now you’re loadin’ and lockin’ and ready to rock
You got your finger on the trigger but the gun won’t pop
None of your friends are gonna tell ‘cause your friends don’t know
You think it’s me that’s out to get, but it just ain’t so.

Wake Up Silly Girl

(Written by Eileen Rose)

Howling at the moon while the whole world’s sleeping
Just the lonely people beat their wings like you do
Wake up, silly girl, it is way past living
And it’s no good keeping the hours that you do

Somewhere there is neon glowing, your roots are showing
Pulling up for a move
Sometimes, well, there's just no knowing
But I had, one sad life going there with you

So let’s raise up our colors for the war
It’s not like we’ve not not been here before
I was a fool to trust you open ended
You’re just so good at pretending
When really, you’re the worst of what your Daddy was and more…

How close to amusing,
inspiringly tragic
Call it luck, black magic or a spark in the night
But I wake up to the wail and the midnight rumble
As I roll and tumble, spilling in to the light

Comfort Me

(Written by Eileen Rose)

Maybe I called you over, maybe it came from you
A kind of madness, brought on by the rain
Maybe I took for granted our talent to be immune
From our own sadness, just a game we played
You cursed us both with tears, but desperate years do end

And I can be a good friend, I can be a joker
But you can choke me up now baby, with a single glance
And if I had my way, I’d embrace the world and lay us both at your feet
And when I’m being crazy
Singing the saddest songs, you’ve ever heard
Waking at dawn spilling words and fevered dreams
Oh will you, will you, will you, will you…comfort me?

Someone I don’t care to mention told me once I was meant
To be parted from all I would love
So with the best intentions, try to hold on to what I can
But man, what a farce, I have lost who I was
This penance serves me well, now only time will tell

If I can be your good friend
Sure I can be a joker
But you can choke me up now, baby
With a single glance
And if I have my way
I’ll embrace the world and lay it all at your feet
And when sometimes I am crazy
I sing the saddest song you ever heard
I wake at dawn spilling words from bitter dreams
Then will you, will you, will you, will you…comfort me?

Cursed us both with tears, but when this year does end

I want to be your good friend, want to be your joker
Want to choke you up now, baby, with a single glance
And if I had my way, I’d embrace the world
Lay us both at your feet
And when I’m being crazy
Singing the saddest songs you’ve heard
Waking at dawn spilling words and fevered dreams
Oh will you, will you, will you, will you…comfort me?

There Will Be Many Gone

(Written by Eileen Rose)

Nobody said there are things you will do now
Leading you to, somehow, having to sit, helpless, watching it all go to hell
Nobody said you’ll have love that will poison
Pain without reason, even your best, bringing the worst to come, just as well

So where was the map with “You Are Here” clearly noted?
And Here There Be Monsters - Keep Away?
They tore it up, they threw it down, said find a way to tough it out
You’ll see more of them coming
Then going, just the same...

You’re in slow-mo, pajamas, a cold Hammer fog
That old black eyed dog knows your name
With Regan’s head spinning round, Damian grinning now
Digging how you run, he’s in on the game

That old bag in black, with her claws at your back
While Jack comes apart at the seams
Poor Rosemary’s dizzy now, so close to finding out
What “better the devil you know” really means...

Well if I had a child, I would say “Let’s this sink in”
They’ll be dry times enough, when there’s wine, just drink it
Write a good song for those you may love and just sing it
There will be many gone long before you would think it

Be many gone...

Space You Needed

(Written by Eileen Rose)

There you go, you have what you wanted
You're alone in that space you needed, you said, to be amazing and depressed
Willfully, I guess, ‘cause you think it makes you interesting

All you had well you never knew
And you'll never know what just might come through for you next
Do you want to miss it all just like you missed it then?
Just like you miss now
‘Cause I know how you are still there hurting
But won’t use words like

“Sorry” or “I was wrong, I should have thought it through”
I should have tried a little harder, loved a little stronger maybe
Been a little deeper, spent, a little longer having fun
Knowing things are done so fast
And they’re not coming back
We’re not coming back

Well, now you’re there and I’m out of you hair
And I won’t tug your sleeve saying, hey why don’t we take a walk
By our ocean, just to talk about nothing?
And you’d brush your hand against my cheek, maybe whisper something sweet
Like you’d done when it was me
And not some heavy thing you weren’t expecting
Now I see

How I was wrong, I should have thought it through
I should have seen a little clearer, left a little sooner maybe
Been a little stronger, spent, a little longer having fun
Knowing things are done so fast and they’re not coming back

And we're not coming back
