What the critics said...

“Few debut albums arrive so fully formed … It is a great album; a subtly epic work of guts and guile with a rich and classic, timeless style. But it and play it to death”  - TIME OUT

“Sensational debut”  - THE SUNDAY TIMES

"one of this year's finest discoveries" - THE GUARDIAN

"Eileen Rose shows the single-minded spirit and intensity of Ani DiFranco, full of attitude and gritty, evocative portrayals of life on an emotional knife-edge . . . The arrival of a forceful new talent whose day will surely come."  - MOJO

"Rose's voice is an earthy, expressive thing conveying lived-in loveliness and battered vulnerability somewhere between Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith and Michelle Shocked . . . country rock that marries perfectly hard living masculinity with perceptive, sensitive femininity. A shining debut" - Q

"Eileen's exquisite album defies facile categories, gliding from Crazy Horse guitar swirls to slow-burn ballads, her voice alternately strident and seductive." -  UNCUT

Shine Like It Does' is Eileen’s debut solo album, released on Rough Trade Records. It was recorded in Monnow Valley studios in South Wales, while Eileen was living in the UK. Eileen’s band on this album comprises three members of Alabama 3 - keyboard player Orlando Harrison, drummer Sir Eddie Real and guitarist Mark Sams - plus Barry Payne (the bass player from Wreckless Eric), and David Bull, who was the guitarist in Eileen’s previous band, Fledgling. Producer Jerry Boys began his career tape-op'ing for The Beatles and The Stones and is probably best known for recording 'Buena Vista Social Club' with Ry Cooder. The album was mixed by Mark Freegard (Breeders, Madder Rose, Marilyn Manson).

The track ‘Shining’, which gives the album its title, appeared in the Disney movie “The Rookie”, and is also on the soundtrack album, along with Steve Earle and Ryan Adams.

‘Lie To Me’ featured in an episode of the hit TV show “Felicity”.

‘Shine Like It Does’ was first released in October 2000. The original cover featured a shot of Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, taken by Eileen’s sister Kathleen Giadone. That version is no longer available. The album was re-released with in 2001, with a new cover shot of Eileen and shrink-wrapped with the ‘Party Dress’ EP.
